A Community Powered Campaign
One container.
72 washing machines.
72 families.
This is The People’s Container.
Welcome to The People’s Container; a community-powered campaign to fund an entire shipping container of Divya Washing Machines.
Since the start of The Washing Machine Project, we’ve worked with incredible partners - including the Whirlpool Foundation, RS Group, Domestic & General, and the Tony’s Chocolonely Foundation.
Together, these partnerships have helped us deliver washing machines to communities around the world.
Now we’re adding a new partner to that list.
Our community.
That means YOU.
The container is filling.
Every machine helps a family in South India
How does it work?
£70,000 to fill one shipping container's worth of machines.
When full, the container will carry 72 Divya Washing Machines to support a programme in South India, supporting 72 families.
When the container is full, our community becomes the Foundation’s newest partner; collectively funding an entire distribution together.
If you’ve ever asked how you can support our work, this is your moment.
Become our next partner. Help us fill The People’s Container.

The People's Container is a new, community-powered fundraising campaign by The Washing Machine Project. It is an invitation to our global community to come together as collective partners to fund an entire shipping container of life-changing washing machines.
-
Our goal is to raise £70,000. This amount will fully fund one shipping container carrying 72 of our manual, off-grid Divya Washing Machines. Every donation helps "fill" the container!
-
Your donations cover much more than just the hardware. The £70,000 enables us to manufacture, ship, and deploy the 72 machines, but it also funds the entire delivery programme. This includes logistics, collaborating with local partners on the ground, training, and vital aftercare once the machines are delivered.
-
We distribute machines around the world in many different contexts, such as hospitals, schools, refugee centres and community groups. This specific container will directly impact up to 72 families in South India. By replacing the exhausting, back-breaking chore of handwashing with our machines, we save people massive amounts of time and effort. This returns time to predominantly women and girls, providing them with opportunities to work, study, rest, or even earn a living using the machine.

The People's Container will fund a programme in India, likely focusing on Salem in South India. We are targeting this specific region to ensure that our community's funds are used exactly where the need is highest and the impact will be the greatest for the families receiving them.
-
No, the campaign is not time-boxed! The container fills when it fills. Once our community collectively reaches the £70,000 goal, the container is "full," and our deployment planning begins.
-
Yes! All donations go directly to The Washing Machine Project Foundation (registered charity number 12113634) and are used exclusively for charitable purposes. While this campaign is run and promoted by The Washing Machine Project CIC, absolutely no donated money flows through or is held by the CIC.
-
You can make your contribution directly through our dedicated JustGiving campaign page. Every single donation is a step closer to unlocking another machine.
-
When you support The People's Container, you aren't just a passive donor; you become our partner. You can expect regular progress updates as the container fills up (tracking the machines unlocked!) and comprehensive impact reporting once the container is successfully deployed in India.
